Jindabyne and Thredbo Weather & Driving Conditions
While much of Australia enjoys a warm and dry climate, the weather conditions of the Snowy Mountains can surprise visitors – especially those who are not accustomed to an alpine climate – as surprisingly harsh. At an altitude of 1,365m (4,478ft), the village of Thredbo experiences lower temperatures and higher precipitation year-round than regions at lower elevations. Jindabyne can also receive snow falls in the winter months but usually these events are short lived. These are the Jindabyne weather conditions you can expect during the winter and summer months.
Driving in the region should always be taken with care year round as the region has changing weather conditions and has a large population of native animals that tend to be most active at sunrise and dusk.
