Thredbo
Alpine Village is centrally located in south east New South
Wales, Australia. Nesteled within the Kosciuszko National
Park, Thredbo Village is within driving distance of Canberra,
Melbourne and Sydney which is ideal for weekend trips and
longer stays.
The village was established in 1957 by a Tony Sponar, a Czechoslovakian Olympian
who emigrated to Australia seven years previous. After the completion of
the Alpine Way, the village went ahead in leaps and bounds, lodges both
commercial and club, chalets and commercial guest houses quickly were built
mostly styled in European architecture with a strong Austrian influence.
Changes
in the late '60's to the village master plan provided Thredbo
with the ability to be established as a summer and winter
destination. Since 1991 Thredbo has seen an enormous amount
of development on facilities and infrastructure.
This
development includes the largest snow making system in
the southern hemisphere, the Merrits Spur development and
the Australian Institute of Sport, high altitude training
centre which was built in the years prior to the year 2000,
Olympic Games in Sydney.

resort now boasts an impressive array of indoor and outdoor
sports facilities, fine restaurants, sidewalk cafes, sophisticated
shopping, hightlife and historic bars.of course, without
bias, the best skiing in Australia.
Thredbo
is home to approximately 600 residents which swells to
over 6000 during the peak seasons of skiing and summer.
